This year’s Resident Evil 2remake was an enormous success for Capcom, introducing a new generation of players to the Raccoon City incident with a brand-new control scheme and updated gameplay. It is the definitive version of Resident Evil as well as the high-water mark for the series as a whole. While the remake of Resident Evil 2 is the poster child for reimagining a work, the original Resident Evil remake stands the test of time as one of the few remakes to completely supplant its original. Mechanics that, in the original, explored new territory a bit clumsily, return here as tools in a master's repertoire.
